Is Everyone Out To Lunch?

Taken Sunday in Texas as Gonzo went gonzo. H/T AP.

And we're so glad that the Democratic Congress looks like it is going continue spending its time investigating the now departed Gonzales.

And Rove.

Because the Congress has nothing better to do (note: How's the House's first 100 hours agenda coming? How about changing the course in Iraq? Or health care? Or energy?).

Translation: Shut-up Leahy and Schumer, you old gasbags.

We get it. You two are the senior Members on the Subcommittee of Self-Importance. We get it.

Which brings us back, as always, to poll numbers.

Which are in the toilet for both the Bush White House and the Democratic Congress.

What doesn't Washington understand?

At What Point Does Someone Actually Throw A Molotov Cocktail?

Real Clear Politics poll averages as of 6.14.07 -

President Bush Approval Rating: 32% Approve, 63.2% Disapprove = Spread of 31.2%

Incredibly ugly. But don't worry Congress, it gets worse for you.

Congress Approval Rating: 25% Approve, 62.5% Disapprove = Spread of 37%

But we have some "good" news.

Congress and the President have finally agreed on an agenda that the American people care about - sorting out exactly what Harriet Miers was up to during the AG firings!

Because even though the AGs served at the pleasure of the President, and even though no one has mentioned criminal wrongdoing, and even though this overreaching Congressional fishing expedition won't put food on the tables of the hungry, American kids through (better) schools or help us begin to deal with meaningful entitlement reform, both the Congress and the President are itching for this fight to "fire up their respective bases".

Awesome.

Not Even The Perception Of Power?

The Politico's Carrie Burdoff has this description of the political mood of the U.S. Senate regarding the Alberto Gonzales affair:

Senators from both parties have elevated the hearing into the U.S. attorney firings as critical to Gonzales's future as head of the Justice Department.
Critical? To whom? 99 other Senators and the inside-the-beltway Pundit Corporation?

We would dryly Note that the Cowboy Governor has sure shown a willingness to work with those people in the past. Especially when the White House absolutely has the upper-hand.

And, we sure as heck aren't hearing any "Gee, I wonder what's going to happen to old Alberto and those sixty billion emails now that Leahy/Schumer have their banana hammocks in a bunch" talk at the Merrimack Diner these days.

In fact, now that we think about it, we never were.

Chuck Schumer should know that Power not perceived is power not attained.

This is a chickensh*t issue surrounding a mediocre (at best) Attorney General.

Let's all get over it.
