The Two "Truest" Quotes You Will Hear Today

1. George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America" said John McCain was "somewhat prescient" in his response to the Georgia crisis (we'd drop the 'somewhat', but why quibble).

2. Colin Powell telling ABC News that, "I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol's musings."

True.

Of Colin Powell, Barack Obama & Bill Kristol EVER Being Right

Colin Powell is going to endorse Barack Obama! Colin Powell is going to endorse Barack Obama!

Holy sh*t! Holy sh*t!

Well, maybe.

But then again, maybe not.

Go beyond the inflammatory Fox headline and read story graphs 3, 4, 5 & 6:

“This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama,” Kristol said, adding that he thinks Powell, a Republican, still has “a high respect” for John McCain, Obama’s Republican rival.

Powell spokeswoman Peggy Cifrino strongly denied the report.

“There’s absolutely no truth to it whatsoever,” Cifrino told FOXNews.com. “Colin Powell will not be at either convention. There’s absolutely no truth to this.”

Roll Call executive editor Mort Kondracke, also a FOX News contributor, said he personally has spoken with Powell, who denied the report and said he has made no endorsement decisions, according to Kondracke.
Hmm.

It looks to us like there is a 98% chance that Bill Kristol doesn't know what hell he is talking about.

Again.

And, if this rumor turns out not to be true, can somebody please explain to us why people still take Bill Kristol seriously?

Please?

Andrew Sullivan Hits A Home Run

Sullivan digs up an old book about Iraq written by Bill Kristol and goes yard.

Our favorite graph:

It seems to me that we demand accountability from our politicians and we should demand accountability from our intellectuals. Not that they always get things right - but that they give a full accounting when they are wrong. Instead we reward and celebrate those who not only get things wrong - Kristol and Rove now have prominent columns in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal - but those who have never taken personal responsibility for their own mistakes. Until we purge all these tendencies from Washington, we will not learn from history and we will keep repeating it.
Can. We. Get. An. Amen?!!??

Read the whole thing.

And where, oh where, is the New York Times/Wall Street Journal's self-respect?

With some many breathtakingly talented writers out there, who "goes" with Rove and Kristol?

Uh, news organizations who ponder why they have to struggle to maintain their relevance?

Wait, what?

A Top Chickenhawk Can't Let Reverend Wright Go (UPDATED)

With all that's going on in the world, Kristol uses the first 8 paragraphs of his column in today's New York Times to talk about Wright?!!??

Honestly, Billy, it's not like Wright's sermons helped cheer America into a 10 year clusterf*ck of epic proportions.

A clusterf*ck that our generation will continue to pay for in dollars and blood while you continue babbling away in some air conditioned television studio.

We all make mistakes.

So give it a rest.

You're boring us all.

---
(UPDATED) Ah email push back!

Ok, yes, Kristol doesn't specifically talk about Wright in each of the 8 opening paragraphs. He just manages to weave in some of Wright's greatest hits in the first 8 paragraphs.

We should have been more specific.

But our point about glass houses and boredom with the Wright story, stands. At least from where we're sitting.

"Oh Bill Kristol, Are You Ever Right?"

The quotes around the title of our post are there because we didn't think up that snarky string of words, Jon Stewart did.

Stewart asked his question straight to camera the night Fred Thompson dropped out of the presidential race after playing clips of Kristol fawning all over Thompson before Thompson got into the race.

But Kristol on Fred Thompson or the Iraq War or any number of other things is so yesterday.

Because this morning Marc Ambinder points out this.

Which is probably not a terminating offense. But it's close.

And it's just pathetic.
