On Meet this morning, David Broder threw cold water on the likelihood that DNC Chairman Howard Dean could prevent a Clinton/Obama smash-up at the convention by saying:

"Howard Dean does not have the status to broker this deal."

Shooooot.

Any rational Vermont resident could have told Russert that.
