Ageism: It Ain't Racism Or Sexism But It's Still An "ism"

Now, we can't see any legitimate (or even 1/4 legitimate) advocacy group hitting McCain on the issue of his age.

First, old people vote.

Second, any attack on McCain's age would only probably end up making the "I'm older than dirt" Senator smile. And provide Johnny Mac a nice, fat political home run ball to go yard on in the experience arena.

Noted: But then again, John Murtha didn't get our memo (but Obama seems to).

In any event, isn't ageism still an "ism"?

Yup.

And it will be very interesting to see how McCain's age plays out in 500(ish) House, Senate and Governor's races this summer.

And how the more legitimate organs of the Democratic Party handle it.

75 Too Old To Be President But Not Too Old To Shovel Pork Like There's No Tomorrow

Oh John Murtha.

You silly little pork shoveler.

Your advanced age (75) hasn't stopped you from playing the the Congressional appropriations system like a violin.

So what's your age beef with McCain?

We guess we mean pork.

Because everyone knows (or should) that porkers like John Murtha don't like John McCain's plan to bring transparency to the federal budget process.

A plan that will bring enough sunlight to make even Murtha's waddle quiver.

Quiver.

All That Pork Has Made John Murtha Delusional

It's no secret that we're disgusted with the state of the Republican Party right now.

And the consequences of the Bush/Cheney/DeLay/Hastert/Abramoff years will take several cycles to fix.

Noted: It might help if the GOP developed a 21st century plan (clean energy, proactive national security, real government and entitlement reform) instead of still trying to rely on their late 20th century plan (dirty energy, reactive national security, lip service government and entitlement reform).

But as pissy as we are at the Republican monkeys who have been minding the store in Washington over the last 10 years, we're almost as pissy at the Democrats.

And so is the country.

Because it seems, to humble old us, that with few exceptions the Democrats don't have a 21st century plan either.

Noted: Kicking the crap out of George Bush and company doesn't count after 2008. Furthermore, kicking the crap out of a lame duck President and his minority party isn't leadership, it's politics.

And while we agree that "politics" will most likely get the Democrats over the finish line in '08, we think it will be just barely.

So when House Appropriations Defense subcommittee Chairman John Murtha (D-PA) says that Democrats will pick-up "40 to 50 seats" in next year's election, we simply laugh.

And ask the good Representative which 2006 campaign promises his party - now the majority party - made and have kept from the last election?

We can't think of many. Not many at all.

And we cannot believe that "politics" trumps failed leadership to the tune of 40-50 seats, even for the Democrats in '08.

However we do believe that Chairman Porker's quick return to business as usual has gone to his head.
