1000+

Gang of 500 members currently pontificating on the "state of the Democratic race" from their summer home on Nantucket or from their downtown offices inside-the-beltway might, just might, want to look at what John Edwards is up to in New Hampshire.

You know, on the actual "campaign trail".

Because Senator Edwards has begun "living in" the Granite State, which the New Hampshire Primary process Gods have absolutely taken Note of.

The same process Gods who note the large and fairly enthusiastic crowds Edwards drew during his recent 4-day campaign swing through the state (1000+ in Portsmouth on the final day). And the 16 gazillion paid staffers Edwards has in New Hampshire.

That stuff counts.

Meanwhile, Edwards is stumping with partisan but substantive rhetoric that is to the left of Hillary and Obama. On healthcare. On the war. On energy. Which doesn't necessarily preclude you from snatching up NH independents, and it guarantees you a "good honest look" by the Democratic base.

Which is the group you really want in a Primary fight. Even in New Hampshire.

Finally, no matter how hard Mark Penn spins and dances, look for Edwards (and everyone but Hillary) to talk "electoral electability" more and more.

A conversation already at a private boil within the Democratic Party. Especially in New Hampshire.

So can Edwards beat Clinton in New Hampshire?

Maybe.

Hillary Clinton is as smart, tough and cagey as they come. And so is her staff.

But Edwards unabashed commitment to New Hampshire could, and should, pay off in a state where primary voters expect to meet every candidate 26 times and who change their mind on those candidates 3,249 times before election day (meaning that there are still 1,329 candidate changes to go).

Finally, and we feel that we must absolutely positively bring this up, it doesn't hurt that Edwards sat down Sunday afternoon with a humble NH blogger to take some questions.

Noted: As always, we try to ask questions that we don't hear a lot on the campaign trail. Sometimes we're more successful than others. Some venues work better than others. We're learning. We've only been at this a couple of months.

Noted 2: As always, we run our interviews in their entirety with no (extra) commentary.

Noted 3: Yeah, we know we look "heavy". It's the camera angle. Snark.

Finally, thank you to Mrs. Edwards for graciously offering to hold the camera (We still need a tri-pod. When we shot Dodd we had our camera stacked on trash cans).

Oh bloggers.

Giuliani's 20 - 30%

We shot this footage of Rudy Giuliani at Great Northern Trading Company in Meredith, New Hampshire this morning.

Noted: Bloggers who actually venture out of their basement, discard their pajamas (temporarily) and hit the campaign trail? Shocking, we know.

Team Giuliani billed this morning's campaign stop as a "business visit".

About 20 voters showed up.

Hiz Honor, who arrived in a 3 car caravan but left most of his staff outside (smart), spent 15 minutes shaking hands and having his picture taken with everyone who wanted one.

After pictures, Giuliani gave a three minute stump speech. He took no questions from the smattering of local media (and 1 blogger) in attendance.

Of interest to us (and we've been watching this guy on the Trail since October of '06) "taxes" seems to be overtaking "staying on offense" as the #1 issue that Rudy wants to talk about.

Maybe the "one trick pony" label is getting a bit old for the Mayor?

In today's speech Giuliani claimed that Democrats were going to "raise taxes anywhere from 20 to 30%" if they won the White House. Right before he attacked John Edwards in particular.

We wonder if the DNC (and Edwards) is going to take issue with that.

Snark.

McCain's Post Debate Speech To Supporters

Jillians Restaurant in Manchester - Beer, Pub Grub, Video Games and a U.S. Senator/Presidential candidate thanking his NH supporters after participating in a nationally televised debate. Gotta love first-in-the-nation.

Ron Paul Supporters Command "The Pen" - No Federal Reserve! No Federal Reserve!

Ron Paul's entire campaign organization showed up at the GOP debate last night and commanded The Pen, the area set aside for a candidate's supporters outside the debate hall.

Mr. Vice President? Monday Morning Clacker Interviews Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty

About 70 supporters turned out for U.S. Senator John McCain's "official" campaign office opening in Manchester, New Hampshire this morning.

Although Senator McCain was not present for the office opening Tim Pawlenty, Minnesota Governor and co-chair of McCain's national campaign, acted as a surrogate.

Noted: 70 supporters for an office opening less than 3 days after Senator McCain himself did a campaign event in Manchester? Willingly inside on a beautiful Saturday morning? Even though the main roadway to the campaign office was closed due to a Manchester marathon? Not bad at all.

Governor Pawlenty is one of a few Republicans to win a statewide re-election campaign in a "purple" state in 2006.

Which means that even though the Governor is a "good" Republican (believe it), he isn't afraid to talk honestly about the problems currently plaguing the GOP.

Which is probably why he and John McCain get along so well.

GreenMountainPolitics1 caught up with Governor Pawlenty at McCain's office opening and asked him several questions including why he is a Republican, what the Republican Party can do to win back young people and Independents and why he is so fond of John McCain.

Editor's Note: We apologize in advance for the (somewhat) poor lighting as well as Monday Morning Clacker's tendency to rush when asking the questions. We're still getting used to this.

You can read the New Hampshire Presidential Watch write-up of the McCain's office opening here.

And you can hear Governor Pawlenty's radio interview with Granite Grok here.

Clacker Interviews Chris Dodd

Eagle-eyed viewers will recognize the back of George Stephanopoulos's head. We took the photo about 10 minutes before Chris Dodd sat down with George for an interview today in New Hampshire.

We interviewed Chris Dodd about 45 minutes after Stephanopoulos did.

Hey, no one is going to argue that we're Network.

Our interview has Dodd's energy plan, his plan to deal with the war in Iraq (and why he disagrees with the Kucinich plan) and what New Hampshire voters are saying around their kitchen tables.

Unedited. No Snark.

Huckabee Tunes Up His New Hampshire Operation

We spent today with Governor Huckabee on the Trail in New Hampshire.

The AP's Holly Ramer did as well and has the MSM story here.

The former Governor is definitely getting some traction in New Hampshire. But don't take our word for it. Simply Note which prominent New Hampshire State Senator will announce his endorsement of Huckabee tomorrow.

In the meantime, enjoy our first (!!!) MyTube clip of Governor Huckabee jamming on a 4-string bass guitar at Daddy's Junky Music in Manchester this morning.
