And So, After 24 Months, The Two '08 Dance Cards Are Finally Set

What a primary cycle.

What an incredible front row seat that we've been lucky enough to occupy these last 24 months.

Historic (the cycle, not the seat).

Something that we'll tell our grandchildren about.

And keep telling them about, long after they've started rolling their eyes.

Right At Ya, Middle America! (UPDATED)

Forget the "bark stripping" (most anyone can "bark strip").

What kitchen tables is Joe Biden talking to?

In what states?

And with what effectiveness?

(UPDATED) Ambinder makes a similar point.

The Logical Next Step Of An Illogical, Inside The Box Republican Strategy...

... is found right here.

Of course, if the GOP continues to go Britney-Paris on Obama-Biden well, this puppy is over.

Or wasn't the Republican Party watching what Joe Biden did with the 7 kitchen tables line in today's speech?

That's "Checkmate" for you politicos scoring at home.

So, is it time for the GOP to come up with another line of attack on Obama-Biden beyond the chickensh*t celebrity one?

You. Betcha.

FLASH - At 8:53pm Tonight GMP1 HAS Confirmed The Senator Joe Biden Will Be Barack Obama's VP Pick, Details As They Become Available

Snark.

Noted: Joe Biden is the best choice that Barack Obama could have made. They will make an extremely formidable 2008 political team.

Believe it.

FLASH - GMP1 HAS CONFIRMED THAT SENATOR JOE BIDEN WILL BE OBAMA'S VP PICK

Our 11-year old sister confirmed it to us this afternoon.

Right before she told us that Colonel Mustard committed the murder in the library with the candlestick.

And right after she told us that Bono is "definitely not" overrated.

But seriously...

GMP1 understands that whoever breaks the VP pick story will forever be known by the Gang of 500 as the Gang of 500 member with the "most kick ass sources" within McCain/Obama world.

Or something like that.

And, we're sure that's important.

Probably.

But, in the 24/7 Information Age that we all live in, "speed" really is cheap.

"Smart" much less so.

So don't worry Chris Cillizza, we're going to continue reading you whether you break "The Big News" or not.

And that's no snark.

New Hampshire Shouldn't Let ABC & Fox Go And Do Something Stupid

This is a tough argument for us to make as it (probably) works against our man McCain, but...

The New Hampshire Primary is the "Laboratory of Democracy" (it really, really is, God bless it).

Therefore, ABC & Fox should let all major candidates participate in their upcoming New Hampshire debates.

Yes, that includes Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich and Joe Biden on the Democratic side (Noted: Well said Mr. Buckley).

And Ron Paul on the Republican side (Noted: Well said Mr. Cullen).

If New Hampshire is serious about maintaining it's first-in-the-nation relevance, allowing ABC or Fox to start banning major candidates from debates on the eve of the Primary = Not. So. Smart.

We're just saying.

On The Record - ONE Vote '08 Holds Candidates Accountable

Later today, The One Campaign will go live with a new website focused on each presidential candidate's plan for combating extreme global poverty and disease.

From the new site:

Throughout November 2007, ONE members sent tens of thousands of petitions to the presidential candidates asking them to go on the record with their plans to combat extreme poverty and global disease.

Now we have their replies.

Use this site to watch each of the candidates' personal video responses to ONE members and their 50-word plans on:

  • Reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis;
  • Eradicating malaria;
  • Improving child and maternal health;
  • Achieving universal primary education; and
  • Cutting in half the number of people without clean water or enough food.
But that's not the really cool part.

The "cool" part is that a voter (web surfer) will be able to choose up to three different candidates at one time for comparison of those candidates' video and written answers.

Want to hear Obama's thoughts on global poverty and disease? No problem.

Think Biden is stronger on poverty issues than Hillary or McCain? Well compare.

The new site is well done and substantive.

And it makes it very clear who the candidates are who take poverty seriously.

And those who don't.

FLASH: Katie Levinson Addresses "The Help"

First Senator Joe Biden said this:

To which Giuliani communications monkey Katie Levinson responded with this:

“As the pundits work to figure out who won the debate tonight, it’s pretty clear Rudy Giuliani was the real winner. It is increasingly apparent Rudy is the one the Democrats are most worried about running against in the general election.

“Senator Biden’s comments were of particular interest. The good Senator is quite correct that there are many differences between Rudy and him. For starters, Rudy rarely reads prepared speeches and when he does he isn’t prone to ripping off the text from others. And, Senator Biden certainly falls in to the bucket of those on the stage tonight who have never had executive experience and have never run anything. Wait, I take that back, Senator Biden has never run anything but his mouth.

“Such a desperate attack from Senator Biden is to be expected considering I - Katie Levinson - have a better chance of becoming President than he does.”

"I - Katie Levinson - blah, blah, blah."

Talk about ego.

Katie dear, Joe Biden is a United States Senator.

You're a "nothin".

Best remember that.

33 Minutes Into Tonight's Democratic Debate We Have To Ask - Why Isn't Joe Biden Taking Off? (UPDATED)

Yeah, we know, there are several easy answers to our question.

But (pure) candidate Joe Biden makes a lot of sense.

A hell of a lot of sense.

No snark.

-------------

(UPDATED) Biden just got done filleting Rudy's qualifications to be President.

And we are (eagerly) awaiting the YouTube clip.

But we need to say, right now, "Bravo Joe Biden. Bravo!"

-------------

(UPDATED) Oh, we got the YouTube clip. See above.

Biden Makes Good Sense On Iraq. So Does Duffy.

Just because we support Bush's troop surge (especially when the only other choice is what the Democratic Congress is peddling) doesn't mean that we're not listening/reading other folks with different ideas about "a way forward" (or out) in Iraq.

Especially folks who are as concerned as we are with the chaos that will result if/when the United States pulls all of its troops out of Iraq.

Anyone remember "You break it, you buy it"?

Noted: For you pro-Richardson folks who emailed us to tell us you weren't very happy about our anti-Richardson Snark yesterday we have two quick questions - 1. What's the difference between genocide in Darfur and genocide in Iraq? 2. What is your car's daily MPG?

Exactly. So let's get serious.

And Joe Biden, who we don't talk enough about on this blog, is as serious and able as they come on how to work our way out of this Iraqi clusterf*ck.

Biden proved it again last night on Jim Lehrer.

Also, Time's Mike Duffy has a very good piece up talking about many of the same ideas Biden has.

Neither of the two men's plans are perfect. But neither is Bush's surge. And all three are better than anything Reid/Pelosi are pushing.

"Pack" Journalism

575+ of us came. 575+ of us saw. 575+ of us didn't learn much.

Shame on us. Because we don't think that many of "us" get it. And we are quite sure that many of "us" aren't trying.

But we know The Politico's Roger Simon "gets" it. So does Mark Halperin, who did his best with the slop we were served last night.

We are stunned at the time, money and manpower that went into a "debate" where the moderator got more speaking time than 6 of the 8 candidates.

And not nearly enough was said about David Walker. Not. Nearly. Enough.

But the salmon buffet was nice. And we did see some of our friends from the media. And it was on CNN's dime. So...

Inside Basball Snark to one of our Clacker neighbors from last night: When people are sitting really, really close to one another there is not a whole bunch of privacy.

So, if you send a email that refers to your neighbor as "that Monday Morning Fucker" well, chances are your "fucker" neighbor is going to see it.

And that "fucker" neighbor might be tempted to tell his 400 friends in the old and new media that a well known blogger, who is nothing if not a shrill one trick pony on the Iraq War, looked completely lost when the conversation last night turned to Bob Kerrey's recent Iraq War Op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.

It was kinda a big deal. And not knowing about it well, it makes you look ignorant.

Even if we are a "fucker".

We're just saying.

Top 10 Reasons You Should Read GreenMountainPolitics1 Everyday

It's official - we make smart people laugh.

This is GreenMountainPolitics1's 100th post on the '08 NH Presidential Primary and we're just getting warmed up.

To celebrate, we've created a Top 10 list of our favorite stories so far.

We might be "Snarky" (we're in awe of you too J.W.), but we're a FUN Snarky.

We'll see you on the Trail.

TOP TEN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD READ GREENMOUNTAINPOLITICS1 EVERYDAY

10. Because we caught Tom Tancredo building a wall between his NH office and John McCain's NH office.

9. Because we learned that Barack Obama's definition of "open" might not be your definition of "open".

8. Because we covered Cindy McCain's first trip to NH in 6 years and foolishly compared ourselves to Charlie Bartlett.

7. Because we caught Bill Richardson loving on a piece of dough. And we still haven't gotten over it.

6. Because we reported that Harry Reid is no doctor.

5. Because we declared Mike Huckabee the dark horse candidate 2 months before Carville did.

4. Because we were there when John McCain told Bill's wife to "Be a man!"

3. Because we reported on the Biden/Ifill dust-up even though no one else caught it.

2. Because we are willing to take on Katie Levinson. And her tummy.

1. Because we were the first to report that God doesn't want Mitt Romney to be President.

Joe Biden Crashes Into Ifill Tower, Gang of 500 Toasts S'MORES

Joe Biden knew his campaign for President was in SERIOUS trouble when PBS News Hour anchor Gwen Ifill, one of the driest and most accomplished reporters in media, began her 90 second acceptance speech at tonight's National Press Foundation Annual Awards Dinner with:

"I'd like to thank the Foundation for giving me this opportunity to be articulate."
And then she looks up from her remarks and smirks merrily at the audience.

Who all smirk merrily right back at her.

Classic.

Glad we caught it at home waiting for 30 Rock.
